A Trip to Ikea

With every new home there's stuff to buy, so we were thrilled to learn that Beijing has Ikea.

Like most Ikeas, this one was packed. Here are some fun photos from our day, which show a few differences between shopping in an American Ikea and a Chinese one. Take a gander.

The approach to Ikea!

Like other Ikeas, some people just endure the shopping trip for the meatballs. We waited at least 10 minutes in this line.

Will wait for Swedish meatballs.

Note the tiny Swedish flag in the potatoes. Plus there's wine and spaghetti!

Once again, I found a great bathroom photo op. The Ikea had both squat toilets and western toilets and there was a line for the former, so I got lucky!

Guess the Chinese learned to throw TP away instead of flush it?

I had read about Chinese folks going to Ikea last summer to nap and escape the sweltering temperatures. It's winter now, but the napping is in full force.

Doesn't the store's layout just make you want to plop down and close your eyes?

A father and son all tuckered out.

  1. I love these napping photos! That said, Ikea seems like about the least peaceful, sleep-friendly place on the planet....
